CAMPAIGN ROAD SHOW
Anchorage Civic & Convention Center Yes! Takes Civic Center to Your Neighborhood

Still have questions about the proposed new Anchorage Civic & Convention Center? Are you wondering how the project can fly without use of property taxes? Curious about continued use of the Egan Center or about where to park downtown? Be sure to catch a public presentation and discussion in your neighborhood.

Mark your calendar: The Anchorage Civic & Convention Center Yes! (ACCCY) team has scheduled a speakers' road show to answer the toughest questions. Plan to attend one of the numerous ACCCY public presentations between now and Election Day, April 5, 2005.

“Anchorage voters want good information before making important decisions," said ACCCY Campaign Manager Jordan Marshall. "People want to review the facts about project financing, the economic need for expansion, and greater opportunities for civic uses. What better venue than a face-to-face question and answer session with an expert?"

Depending on availability, speakers come from the development team, the Anchorage Convention & Visitors Bureau, or the ACCCY board; and occasionally it's the Mayor who speaks. These volunteers attend dozens of meetings to answer questions about the project. To date, nearly 50 civic, community and business groups have hosted speakers on the proposed civic and convention center.

"The campaign has already met with groups as diverse as the Resource Development Council, area Rotary Clubs, the Institute of Management Accountants, and the Anchorage Woman’s Club," said Marshall, "and we're visiting community councils all over the city."

Public presentations are scheduled across town at numerous community council meetings:

  • February 28 – “Make it Monday” Anchorage Chamber of Commerce, Egan Civic & Convention Center, 272-2401;
  • March 3 – Foothills Community Council, Scenic Park Elementary, 337-3553,
  • March 3 – Tudor Community Council, Rogers Park Elementary, 786-2039,
  • March 3 – Downtown Community Council, Anchorage Museum of History & Art, 339-4203,
  • March 9 – Oceanview Community Council, Oceanview Elementary School, 345-3614,
  • March 10 – AARP, Anchorage Senior Center, 337-7047, and
  • March 22 – Home & Landowners Organization (HALO) Forum, O'Malley's on the Green, 333-2350.
